__See Jenny run 26.2 miles?!
__Yes, that's right folks...I am at it again!
For those of you who know me, you know that I have had some BIG changes in my life this past summer. Good changes. Exciting changes! And I have decided to add to my new adventures by revisiting an old challenge.
I am happy to report that on behalf of the Leukemia
& Lymphoma Society, I will be traveling to Orlando
this January to partake in the Walt Disney World Marathon. Some might think me goofy for attempting 26.2 miles again; I'll never forget my seemingly endless 7 and a half hour walk across Alaska! I just want to finally be able to say that I ran one of these things. However, my personal victory in running all 26.2 miles will be overshadowed by the fact that I am doing it for a great cause: the fight
against cancer.
The Leukemia & Lymphoma Society (LLS) sets a fundraising minimum for each Team in Training runner and I am to raise $3900 for my participation. I am not a big fan of fundraising because I am really not comfortable asking people for money. My only solace comes from knowing the money goes where it is needed. Over 75 percent
of every single dollar raised by the LLS goes directly to advancing its mission of curing leukeima, lymphoma,
Hodgkin's disease, and myeloma as well as improving the quality of life
for patients and their families. There are not many charities that are so fortunate to keep administrative costs low that funds raised can go where they truly need to go.
I hope that you will help join
me in the battle against cancer by taking action yourself. Check out Team in Training programs in your own neighborhood and join me in running 26.2 miles at the happiest place on earth! Or if running is not your thing, consider making
a donation. (FYI: it's 100% tax-deductible!)
If you cannot make a donation, you can still help by spreading word of what I'm doing and sending me
support and encouragement during my months of training. I am surely going to need them!
I know the battles that lie ahead for me: the struggle to leave a warm bed before the sun comes up to run on a chilly Colorado morning; the choosing of nutritious foods over the sweets you know I love so much; the self-discipline required of a successful training regimen. As much as I enjoy running, I know that it will not always be fun. I predict there will be several times when I will question what the heck I was thinking to attempt this yet again?! But I will run for those who cannot. I will run for those who would give anything to be able to go for a run in the park instead of going into surgery or for another round of chemo. I will run so there will be more stories of survivors and fewer lives lost. I will run because it's the least that I can do.
Thank you for visiting my web
site. Please visit often to see my fundraising and training progress.
And who knows, should all go super well in Orlando this January, maybe you'll see me back in Boston in April!
